Melbourne Beach Volunteer Fire Department is saddened by the recent loss of Past Fire Chief Seth Stark. Seth passed away on September 14, 2011 at the age of 46. Chief Stark recently stepped down as Chief to spend more time with his family. Seth moved up the ranks in his 17 years of service to MBVFD holding positions as Firefighter, Driver-Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and finally Chief for the past five years. His zest for life, love of his children and family, dedication to his brothers and sisters in the fire service and his high level of community involvement are qualities that all who came in contact with Seth admired.

A formal firefighter's farewell is planned on Saturday, October 1st at St. Mark's Methodist Church on A1A in Indialantic. The memorial service will begin at 1:30 pm with a reception following @ 3:00 at the Community Center next to Station 58 and Ryckman Park. There will be a procession of firetrucks from various fire agencies in Brevard County from the church traveling down A1A heading south to Ocean Avenue in Melbourne Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent in memory of Fire Chief Seth Stark to: MBVFD Inc. P.O. Box 510081, Melbourne Beach, FL 32951.

New Marine Rescue Boat
August 2009 – MBVFD is proud to announce the purchase our new 19’ Carolina Skiff as our newest intercostal waterway response vessel.

Haunted House
October 2008 - Melbourne Beach Volunteer had over 300 people come through their second annual Haunted House. Everyone had a ghost of a time.

Tropical Storm Fay

Training
April 2008 - Probation Fire Fighters doing search drills and vent with IFR and IHBVFD

Helo Training
November 2007 - MBVFD along IFR trained with First Flight Trauma alert and Sherriff’s Rescue. The purpose of the training was to practice the identification of adequate landing zones, protocol for activation, and procedures after activation as it relates to timing, safety and patient care

Extrication Training
October 2007 - Fire Fighters went through an extrication class room and participated in practical extrication and advanced extrication scenarios trainings.

Local Fire
The Melbourne Beach Volunteer Fire Department responded to a room and contents fire here in Melbourne Beach. Indialantic was also on scene as part of our mutual aid response.

Easter Egg Hunt
The Melbourne Beach Volunteer Fire Department sponsors an Easter Egg hunt and visit with the Easter Bunny for the children. The Fire Department has an open house to serve cookies and punch after the egg hunt.

Holiday Festivities
December is a fun time of year for the fire department. We sponsor the Melbourne Beach Children's Christmas Parade and Santa delivers gifts to the children of Melbourne Beach on Christmas Eve via the Firetruck.

Training
November 2006: Melbourne Beach property owner allowed the Fire Department to do some hands on training in their property before demolition. Melbourne Beach Fire Department usually invites ILFD when we get opportunities for mutual hands on training. This evening we worked everything from Incident Command, Rescue, Fire Suppression, Ventilation and Overhaul.

Fire Prevention
October 9th - 16th was Fire Prevention Week. Every year the volunteers of the MBVFD spend time with the kids in the community raising awareness. The students of Gemini Elementary, As We Grow, Grace Lutheran and First United Methodist Preschool learned about fire prevention and safety, fire behavior and what to do if every involved in a fire or emergency. The kids always in enjoy getting in the fire and marine apparatus as well as learn about all the different tools that are used on the fire ground.”

Driver Engineering Training
June 17th, 18th, 24th and 25th: Lieutenants John Miller, Brian Simmons, and Jaime Twigg organized and conducted a Driver Engineering Course for the Melbourne Beach Fire Dept members. The 40 hour course contained both academic and practical exercises on Class A Fire Pumper operations. Members interested in being Driver Engineers tested on everything from safely driving the fire engines, fire ground logistics with fire engines, water supply and pumping operations.

April Brush Fires
The Melbourne Beach Volunteer Fire Dept. is a member of the Beachside Task Force. This task force is activated when resourves are needed to help with the County-wide brush fires.
